Grand houses had large, imposing entrance halls, most victorian terrace houses had a long, narrow hallway, with doors leading off to the reception rooms. As the hall was designed to impress, it would be richly decorated with elaborate panelling, high ceilings adorned with ornamental plasterwork and patterned floor tiles. There would normally be a wooden stand to hold coats, hats and umbrellas, flanked by a couple of chairs for waiting visitors.
Wash stands, shaving stands, towel rails and dressing tables were essential items of bedroom furniture.
